Lies and Demons is an oriental fantasy anthology centered on "uncovering truth and slaying demons". Its worldbuilding establishes that four great demons — spawned from human greed, rage, obsession and arrogance — are born out of mortal lies. It follows demon‑slayer Gu Zhaochen, who roams the world wielding the Truth‑Revealing Blade. He slays supernatural fiends, pierces through layers of falsehood, and probes the hidden truths of human nature. The series consists of four core story arcs. Arc 1: The Lie of Controlling Love revolves around the Bond‑Kindness Demon. Zhou Yuniang, a matriarch of the Zhou household, claims she acts “for her children’s own good”. Using red magical threads, she manipulates her son and daughter’s life choices, reducing them to her personal possessions. Gu Zhaochen uncovers hidden medical recovery documents and destroyed love letters. He guides the siblings to voice their true wishes, forcing Zhou Yuniang to confront her selfish fear of no longer being needed, and vanquishes the Bond‑Kindness Demon. Arc 2: The Glutton That Devours a Realm features the gluttonous Hundred‑Mouth Pixiu. It opens with a local grain scandal: the Wen clan of Fengling defrauds farmers by rigging weighing scales to seize farmland. The plot escalates to expose a colossal government lie. Under the so‑called “Prosperity Decree”, imperial authorities plunder common people’s grain and falsify household registers to fabricate an illusion of national prosperity. Allying with Wen Zhiqiu, young heir of the Wen clan, and retired official Lu Yancheng, Gu Zhaochen exposes the conspiracy at the grand Fengcheng Ceremony. He slays the greed‑driven fiend that devours the nation and its people, restoring erased civilians to official household rosters. Arc 3: The Black‑Stone Blood Banner centers on the wrath‑fueled Blood‑Banner Ya Zi. For a century, the Pei and Jiang clans of Blackstone Gorge have waged endless blood feuds stemming from an ancient flood disaster. The Wrath Demon distorts facts and amplifies fear, trapping both clans in cycles of vengeance. Gu Zhaochen aids the young clan heirs in uncovering the truth behind the old flood‑gate incident. He helps villagers face their inner terrors, break the demon’s manipulation, and end the century‑long vendetta.
