Divorce Lawyer
"Elite lawyer Evelyn Smith is renowned in her firm for her unbeaten track record. While visiting her hometown, she witnesses her childhood friend Susan Miller being abused by her husband, Frank Brown. Evelyn intervenes to stop Frank, and upon learning that Evelyn is a lawyer, Susan clings to her as a lifeline, begging her to file for divorce. Susan even brings several other abused women to Evelyn’s home, pleading for help. Moved by their pitiful state and Susan’s desperate appeals, Evelyn defies her colleague Liu Liu’s warning to ""avoid taking on underprivileged cases."" However, the law firm has a policy requiring a minimum retainer fee of $10,000, which the women readily agree to. Evelyn takes on their divorce cases and successfully sends the abusers to prison. Yet, after winning the cases, Susan and the other women renege on their agreement, claiming the lawsuits were ""too simple"" and accusing Evelyn of fraud. They demand a refund of the retainer fees, rally villagers to slander her, and even resort to violence—forcing the Smith family to return the money. The ordeal leaves Evelyn’s father severely injured and comatose, while her mother suffers a heart attack. Evelyn herself is imprisoned. To prevent Frank from overturning his conviction in the appeal, Evelyn chooses not to fight her own sentence and serves two years in prison, secretly planning her counterattack. After her release..."
