Kung Fu Hoops: The Comeback King
Zhang Baoli sweeps streets for a living. No one knows he was once Zhang Tianyi—the legendary kung fu basketball king who dominated the court two decades ago. At his peak, he was framed for doping by a jealous rival and banned for twenty years. He disappeared into obscurity, raised his daughter alone, and buried his past. Then his daughter fell into a contract trap, facing a ten-million-dollar penalty and threats to her safety. For her, he picked up a basketball again. Xu Lili, the head of the Xu Group’s basketball division, recognized him immediately. He passed her ultimate test—sinking a shot from thirty meters above the ground. She promised to clear his daughter’s debt. And she discovered the man behind the trap was her own half-brother, fighting her for control of the family empire. Zhang Baoli proposed a basketball gamble: shares on the line. He feigned weakness, lured his enemy into raising the stakes, then unleashed his kung fu skills. Using internal energy, he made the ball score 121 consecutive baskets without missing. He won the shares, tore up the unfair contracts, and earned a new enemy—the family patriarch who refused to accept defeat. Fighting alone against an eight-man team, Zhang Baoli won with Bagua Palm defense and gravity-defying dunks. Xu Lili twisted her ankle during the game; he took care of her. Love began where the battle ended. In a friendly match against a rival nation, his old enemy Wang Chuan coached the local team to a humiliating deficit. Zhang Baoli came off the bench, sank a flying three-pointer in the final seconds, and saved the nation’s pride. His identity was exposed. The war reignited. He built his own team—aging, doubted, dismissed. He defeated three players alone to earn respect. He fused kung fu into basketball and led his team to the national semi-finals. There, he faced Wang Chuan in the ultimate showdown. Desperate, Wang Chuan forced his players to take banned drugs. One player had a change of heart and handed Zhang Baoli the evidence. In the middle of the game, Zhang Baoli exposed the doping scandal, played the surveillance footage from twenty years ago, and shattered Wang Chuan’s reputation. Cornered, Wang Chuan took drugs himself and lost his mind, taking Xu Lili hostage. Zhang Baoli struck him down with a single bottle cap to the eye. Wang Chuan was sentenced to thirty years. Zhang Baoli’s name was finally cleared. His team won the national championship. Then the World Cup. He stood at the top of the basketball world. When his old rival Zhan Yufeng returned with dark martial arts, seeking a life-or-death match, Zhang Baoli overpowered him and exposed the jealousy that had driven his crimes. Zhan Yufeng was arrested. The score was settled—for good. At the peak of his glory, Zhang Baoli learned Xu Lili was pregnant.
