After moving to a new city, Tao Ling — a woman living alone — is plagued by a series of eerie incidents. Ugly photos of her are posted on her social media. She receives a delivery of rotting dead fish. A stranger asks to borrow a light late at night. Her pet turtle is scalded to death. Her private clothes are listed for sale online. And worst of all — hidden cameras are found in her home, and her smart devices are being remotely controlled. Behind all these horrors is a man wearing many masks. He disguises himself as a delivery driver, a security guard, a neighbor named Zhou Mu, and even a community psychiatrist — all to get close to Tao Ling. He closes in relentlessly, pushing her into fear and self-doubt. To make things worse, her college best friend Xiaoya — the one person she trusted — reunites with her, only to team up with this man and push her to the edge. As Tao Ling digs deeper, she discovers the root of all this terror traces back to the death of Zhou Cheng — a college classmate who once had a crush on her. Back then, hoping to set Xiaoya up with Zhou Cheng, Tao Ling approached him. But he misunderstood her kindness and confessed his love. To protect her friend's feelings, Tao Ling turned him down. Soon after, Zhou Cheng died in a late-night cycling accident. Xiaoya dropped out and disappeared. Tao Ling never knew her rejection had indirectly led to the tragedy. Consumed by revenge, Xiaoya tries to push Tao Ling off a rooftop. Zhou Mu watches his plan unfold — and then turns to eliminate Xiaoya, the last witness. He never planned to leave anyone alive.
